🧠 MIND Diet in the Headlines: New Research Adds More Proof—and More Urgency

We’ve long known that what we eat can help protect our brains, but a new study presented at the 2024 American Society for Nutrition conference offers another powerful reason to stay consistent with the MIND Diet.

In one of the largest and most ethnically diverse studies to date, researchers found that adults with higher adherence to the MIND Diet had up to a 13% lower risk of developing dementia—especially among African American, Latino, and White participants. The exciting part? Even modest improvements in diet among older adults were tied to better cognitive outcomes over time.

“This study strengthens what previous research has shown us: small, consistent changes rooted in brain-healthy foods can truly make a difference—especially for those at highest risk.” — Jennifer Ventrelle, MS RDN

But what about the populations that didn’t see the same benefit—like Native Hawaiian and Asian American groups? The answer may lie in what the dietary tools didn’t capture—many cultural foods rich in brain-supporting nutrients weren’t included in the original MIND scoring system.

That’s why expanding our tools and making regionally and culturally tailored MIND diet resources is one of our top priorities for the year ahead.
